Final call for a single painter (or two travelling together and sharing a room) for the upcoming Enrosadira Italian Dolomites trip this June.
This sketching and painting holiday begins in Verona, which is easily accessible by plane, or by train from other parts of Europe, as well as other airports in northern Italy. Travelling on the comfortable and efficient trains we snake up through the mountains past vineyards, forests and castles towards the jagged peaks and Alpine meadows of Alta Badia.
The area is simply perfect for painters. The scenery is stunning and the shapes of the mountains are distinctive, which makes things easier for a beginner, yet there is no shortage of challenging subjects for the more experienced. The weather should be sunny and warm in June, with the wild flowers out in force. We use the ski lifts to whisk us high into the hills for breathtaking views, so while you should be able to walk a short distance on rocky tracks, the energy expenditure need not be excessive. The rewards are great (not least the local apple strudel and hot chocolate!) Longer walks are an option for those who want them, too.
Apart from a few stones underfoot and the occasional steep incline, this is neither a physically nor emotionally challenging itinerary. The accommodation, transport and food are all of a very good standard so there’s nothing to be concerned about, except reserving your spot!
Booking for this trip will close in three weeks. Until then we are seeking one person or a couple (one of whom could be a non-painter) to join our small, friendly group. This incredibly scenic and peaceful region is the ideal escape from the world’s madness, so if you are feeling the need to lose yourself in a forest or meadow, hone your watercolour skills in warm (but not hot) sunshine, eat pizza and glug down an Aperol Spritz, then this is your chance.
‘Enrosadira’ Sketching/Painting break: Sketching & Painting Holidays in Italy

Speeding through vineyards as the mountains get ever higher: All aboard the high speed train from Verona to Bolzano, and on to Brunico.

Delicious food in every restaurant and on every street corner in the land of pizza -although Alta Badia has its own distinctive Ladin cuisine, as well. The Dolomites region is as Austrian/Germanic in feel as it is Italian, but you will find all the usual suspects on most menus. It’s an interesting and refreshing mix!

Incredible vistas without the effort: well-maintained ski lifts bring us easily and swiftly to the top of the world, where there’s usually a perfectly-placed coffee shop for procrastinating on which view to sketch first.

Alpine huts, flower meadows and clear blue skies: an idyllic place for painting outdoors.

Painters with leftover energy, or non-painting partners doing their own thing during the day, will find myriad opportunities for hiking the extensive network of paths, which range from easy strolls to challenging, high altitude via ferratas.
(The longer walks need a decent level of fitness. All participants must be able to walk for 30 minutes on a slight incline.)
